Message On Monday I finally had the oppertunity to take my Z to Specialty Z to have it dyno tuned.

The plan was to meet up with Dave, his father, and Cliff at 8 am and make our way toward Specialty Z. That weekend mostly consisted of me running around trying to get everything back on the Z and ready for the trip. Since I had only roughly 800 miles on the rebuild I was a bit nervous about the drive, but since the appointment was already made and everyone had already took a day off, there was no backing out. I remembered that I had a small coolant leak, which with the help of pressure tester I managed to find and fix. At about 11:30 PM Sunday I figured I have done everything I could. Sadly I ran out of time and was not able to wash the Z, hence why it is so dirty in the pictures.

Monday morning, we all met up and after breakfast our caravan of 2 Zs was on the way.

We made it to SZ without any troubles. I was a bit surprised that the Z made it without any issues.

It is Z heaven I tell you.

Right away my Z was strapped down and ready. I was a bit nervous knowing what was about to happen.

The first run was the worst on my nerves, I constantly re-checked things in my head, thinking about when I installed the crankshaft and rod caps. Nonetheless, the engine worked without any issues and it reached 7k rpm. At that point I was a bit more relaxed knowing that a piston wasn't going to work its way out. At each run the HP and TQ numbers climbed, until an issue arised. I somehow managed to forget to tighten some bolts which secured the IAC to the plenum which resulted in a massive boost leak. After that was taken care of and a few more dyno pulls Greg and Seb decided that this is as good as it gets.

I am very pleased with the results, specially on stock injectors, CATs and intercoolers. It is a completely different car when boost kicks in, and it feels like it doesn't want to stop.

A big thanks goes to Greb, Seb and Brooke for all of their hard work. They went above and beyond addressing every little issue and detail on the car, making sure everything is working correctly, even little things that were not related to the dyno tune.

Also, a big thank you to Dave, Jim and Cliff for taking time off from their busy schedules and accompanying me.

Boost is freaking addicting.

I have nightmares about that happening...I'd be the poor bastard you'd hear about on the news that gets killed by a softball-size chunk while spreading out my body over the hood and screaming "Nooo!" (Having a conversation about hail damage) - BradZ (FL) on March 25, 2005 at 9:56 PM

Tell your friend that you could take a dump, light it on fire and that would be hotter shit than his car. Probes suck, that's just all there is to it. - 300ZXpert (someday) on April 04, 2005 at 11:35 PM

P.S. You REALLY are on here at ALL hours! And I thought I was bad! :) - zmenon on August 16, 2005 at 3:06 AM
