Message I think a key factor is whether a person is planning/able to fix it themselves, vs the scenario where a person is buying an already-repaired salvage titled car.

Many of my cars are salvage-titled, but I fixed them myself, so I know how they were put together. My black 300ZX is salvaged titled, and I've beat on that thing relentlessly. I love that car, sigh....

Along the lines of what you are questioning, though, I tend to discourage people from buying *already-repaired* salvage cars.

Also, if we are talking about sports cars that actually get driven (versus cars that get stored in garages for status) I might turn this around and ask is it wise to spend big bucks on something that you will, at times, beat on relentlessly? When I used to race, I found it a hindrance to be concerned about the vehicle while I was racing. If your investment makes you pull back so that you don't tear it up, that defeats the purpose as well. Of course, this is dependent on your cashflow; I once witnessed a fellow at a track in Scotland absolutely abusing a Ferrari F40 (no lie!), and let me tell you, that was a sight to behold. Flames coming out the tailpipes...I was told that he had just gotten it back from blowing the engine at an earlier event. Plenty of cash moneys makes this whole discussion irrelevant, eh?

Sorry, I rambled.
