It does so by converting the current the wire uses to stay at a certain temperature into a voltage the ecu can read. The current needed to stay at a certain temperature is directly proportional to the mass of air passing through it. Its proportional but variation in air density (due to air temp or air pressure) would change the reading. So to get an accurate reading, an intake air temp sensor is also necessary. But to answer your question, yes both affect it, although air velocity is in no way calculated or sensed by the maf sensor. air velocity simply affects the mass which is the parameter being detected by the MAF sensor.
