| crazy power? No. But for the "common american driver" they were probably enough. I think Nissan was just preventing a bit of Darwin's Law by detuning the VG by plumbing/downing the forced induction/tuning down the motor in general. I've talked with a nissan engineers over the years, and it's kind of been an underground subject. But, is entirely true that most people needed protection from themselves. I mean, imagine if the Z32 was released with 340-360 rwhp from factory turnkey. Pffft, with the egos that are out there and no driving skill to match......they would have killed hundreds.
