Message agree with rebuild option, i'm sure you can source the same synchros as the 98+ and just rebuild your old one with newer parts, might be a bit cheaper in the long run...$1800 for a 98+ trans that has had lots of neutral feedback isn't worth the money in my opinion, i picked up used transmissions for $300-500 that last me longer than some of these 98+ transmission stories i've read, just use redline MT-90 and it 'cures' that 4th gear grind for a lil while, (i always try to find low mile used transmissions)...my next option im looking at personally is to rebuild one of the spare transmissions i have lying around through a reputable shop and see how that goes
