| "If the trunk doesn't play much in the role of support for the Z's structure, I would prefer to use aluminum obviously for pretty decent weight savings. If it does play a large role though, then steel it is!" My belief is that it does play a significant role in the unibody. Without evidence to the contrary, im curious as to why he's selected Aluminum "As for the latter part of your post, I dont see your point. Like I said, one does not have to go all out to enjoy the benefits of a mod in the direction of its purpose. Anyone who has skimped out on their purchases can attest to this (buying cast wheels, entry level coilovers, etc). So he wants to enjoy his car on the street. Sue him. I'm not talking about Mike, i'm talking about a hypothetical Lotus Elise with a monster stereo, air compressor and variable ride height. We're talking about adding 100+ lbs to a sub 2k lb vehicle without a trunk and a rather spartan cockpit. where would you mount these niceties? On the roof? trunk? hood? Have you seen mikes stereo? That'd look effing hilarious mounted to the roof of an Elise like a set of alien eye pods. I guess you could fit the air tank in the elise's non existant trunk, but I'd be concerned with the impact to the weight balance after that. so to restate, i would strongly LOL @ a Lotus Elise with those mods. I like Mike, he's a good natured, personable guy. He's taken a hell of a ribbing over the years and came back from Zcon 04 w/a new name we gave him there. He keeps coming back and sounds to have learned a tremendous amount over the years. I'm not disparaging the guy, though I wouldnt choose to do the things to MY car that he has to HIS.
