would be to bring it back to stock spec, because after all the years the clearances can get bigger. From what I learned in school you want to stay at stock clearance other wise you can damage you crankshaft and other parts. The purpose of oil clearances are to prevent the metals from the rod and crankshaft to touch, the rod actually sits on the oil and not the crankshaft, it also help with oil pressure IIRC! This is just what I learned @ UTI, some of the stuff they taught us was a little off but all of this seemed to make sense.
