I'm going to be rational here, and calm, and not name call. Because that would get my post deleted. First let me say that I do not have any AMS parts on my car, however, that doesn't mean that I can't post here. I have seen many in person, and many photos comparing products not to mention much more information drawing tight conclusions. The title of the thread after all is AMS discussion, not AMS experiences. AMS/Alloy Toyz/Z32 Innovations (oh irony) are all the same company, with the same goal: wait till a quality product is developed, buy an example of it, send it off to a LCC (low cost country, in most cases, China) and have it duplicated. This was the case with the following products: MSP Manifolds
Specialty Z Expansion downpipes
Border fuel rail
Nismo rear upper arms
Midori front upper arms
300° Brake master cylinder brace
300° EGR block off kit
Stillen Hicas removal
Polished fuse covers
TIAL RFL BOVs
SPLs bronze shifter bushings
BDE exhaust cam plugs
BDE Motor mounts And the list goes on. If AMS were to say "hey, we're a low cost alternative" that would be one thing. But they consistently claim to innovate, which is simply not true. The copying of iPods and ratcheting wrenches can't be compared here. The Z32 market is shrinking, not expanding. If there are less people bringing new products and developments to market, then real innovation for this car will cease. This is without doubt. And real innovation for the Z32 will cease if there is no motivation to bring products to market. Why would you develop something, spending your own time and money to actually do the work in creating something, if you know that in a few months, someone else will knock it off and undercut you? You wouldn't. And don't say that you would, because you may be brazen and smarmy now, but when it happens to you, you feel insulted and violated. But you know what? AMS doesn't care if innovation stops for our Z32s. Do you want to know why? Because they're already expanding this business model to other lines of cars. Sure, they had the first pulleys for a couple of cars. But they also copied SPLs 350Z subframe bushings and end links. When there are no development costs, the profit margin is that much higher. If AMS actually sold their manifolds for $100 a pair, that would be a community service, as they actually cost $45 a set to make. But no, at $495 a pair, they still rake in $450 in profit. For what? Copying a product which had years of development time and dollars? Quite frankly, I find it sickening. Patenting inventions is a great idea. A developer like BDE or SZ or SPL could obtain a US patent on their product. That cost about $13k and prevent anyone from making a copy of their product in the US, or overseas by a company based in the US. This doesn't help with preventing your product from being copied by AMS. AMS is a Canadian company, with manufacturing in China. To prevent AMS from duplicating ones product, you would need a patent in Canada and possibly China, in addition to the US. Not a cheap venture for small companies. Oh, and the suggestion of the small innovators teaming up with AMS for their bankroll is just comical. If I have to explain why you're beyond help. Keeping rational and calm, and not swearing, my final thoughts. AMS is a dirty, dirty company. If you chose to do business with them, that's your choice. However, my hard earned dollars are going to the vendors who keep making new products for our cars. People like honzrr and T3ku are confused, and short sighted, but that's fine, to each their own. It doesn't take a wizard or a visionary or a psychic to see the writing on the wall, and what will be come of the Z32 aftermarket if AMS keeps perpetuating it's current business model.
