the hard part is dealing with the possibility of ingesting air at either side. You have to have some sort of system to rapidly detect air ingestion (actively or passively) then shut a valve to that pickup until its safe to open again. The operating environment is brutal for electronics and the logic and fail safes aren't clear cut. Even passive diverter valves have their drawbacks although they may still be worthwhile.
I may pursue this at some point but doing it safely will require a ton of development and testing.
