I have been to many countries where the "standard" of "traffic safety" would make the typical american's head pop, and you see far less incidents on a daily basis. It stands to reason that when people realize there are consequences for going rectal-headed, they tend to pay a bit more attention. It also stands to reason that the more we try to encapsulate ourselves in our little risk-free life-bubbles the worse this sort of crap is going to get, and ultimately the more at risk the rest of us will be.
