The Fairlady designation was for the Japanese market (Australians as well, I believe.) It is right hand drive, and available typically in a 2+2 twin turbo configuration, something that wasn't exported to North America.
Other than the reversed driving configuration and a few small touches (one touch power up driver's window, auto transmission lockup, power folding mirrors and the Fairlady Z badging to name a few) it is essentially the same car as we have here as the 300zx
Fairlady is still used for all the Japanese Z cars, from the old roadster to the 370Z.
I'm sure I've missed a ton of tiny details, but that is essentially it.
