Message Well IIRC Ash really was the one pushing for the benefit of using 2.5" piping. There were many nay sayers against him continually saying the increase in volume will decrease the velocity of air and increase lag. I remember trying to calculate the VE of the engine vs. a formula I found for fitting IC piping diameter to the engines VE. I recall 2.36" being the ideal size. I didn't come up with the idea or test it, Ash did.
I'm a fan of giving credit where credit is due & I intended on going with his kit originally. I was originally produced out of steel, which I did not want & was very difficult to get. After over 2 years of waiting for an aluminum kit available to the general market I decided to make my own, for me. Otherwise a made a kit for a close friend that was in a similar situation. I never advertised my work as "for sale" because of my respect for the original people the bring new and creative ideas to the Z32 market. Ash being one of those people, along with many other people.
Additionally I never intended to market a turbo inlet kit. I wanted to purchase Mike Smiths turbo inlets. I have seen them in person and they are simply ART! Mike only produces things that are perfect, nothing less. When I inquired about purchasing them I was told they were not available. When I showed my efforts of making my own out of tubing and not cast (since my understanding was that I was unable to purchase Mike Smiths) I was told Mike Smith was working with some one on having his produced for the public and that I should stand down on anything I was making. I have the HIGHEST amount of respect of Mike Smith & I have been fortunate enough to have lunch with him a couple times. Every time I run into him his modesty, genuine kindness & intelligence simply amaze me. If I was able to purchase his I would have left it at that, but I couldn't, so I made my own.
The rest of the intake kit that I make seems to be a new and fresh idea from my that I have never seen in the Z32 market. I can only hope that people will have the same respect for me trying to bring something new market as I have tried to do for others that have gone down the same path.
I guess I'm to new to the business side of things to only think of it a business, I still have my ethics and morals intact. I have never and will never purchase someone else work and duplicate it or have it duplicated, even though I have been asked to do just that in the past, its just not my style.
