Message Snapped. Though I agree too much belt tension could be the culprit, there are other failure modes for an idler stud.

As for the tensioner adjustment. From what I was told, the installer didn't adjust the tensioner, he left the old one in place. The old 60k kit had low miles on it, he only changed this stud as an "upgrade". I did note to him that checking and adjusting the tensioner is critical to proper function, so hopefully he'll do so this time.
