When I bought my car, it had a brand new Interstate Megatron II in it. After just 2 years, its case had split in half at the top and battery acid was leaking out all over my battery tray. Since the warranty had just ended a few days earlier, I couldn't just get it replaced. The interstate battery on my parents' minivan starting leaking acid just a couple months before this incident and had to be replaced as well. After both of these problems, I decided against purchasing another Interstate battery and went with an Optima Red Top. I am very familiar with Sealed Lead Acid Batteries as I work with them in the computer industry. The main trick to making sure that SLAB's don't fail prematurely is to NOT let them discharge all of the way. As long as your optima doesn't discharge, you should have a long-lasting battery.
