I wouldn't say it was stupid of you...just an oversight. :So the pump's internal bypass is more of a high-pressure limit safety device and the oil cooler bypass sets the base oil pressure for the engine. Yep. If anything, I consider the TT oil pump bypass to be nothing more than a carryover from the NA engine. In the stock TT oiling system, I have my doubts that the oil pump bypass ever opens. But regardless of the placement of the primary bypass mechanism, I still think making the pump more efficient would mean less pressure loss and hence more flow through the oil cooler (rather than at the bearings as I stated before). This additional pressure could be so infinitesimal that it isn't worth debating, but just like you, I'd really like to see some sort of a test and the results. We're on the same page :)
