no if, and or buts! In my Z31 years ago, an ODU "student" pulled into the street - right into my front right fender. He asked that I not call the cops as he would pay for it. I made it a point to ask if he could afford it. He said yes, so against my better judgement I agreed. We exchanged info and I immediately went to three body shops. All were in the range of $900 to $1500. I paged him (you can tell how long ago this was) and he called back and agreed to meet me. When we met I gave him the estimates. His response was "Can you find someone cheaper?". At that moment I realized I was screwed. Well, to shorten the story, he gave me $400 right then and promised the rest when he received his student check. Being my usual self, I tasked the body shop with the repair and paid out of my pocket to get it fixed right away. On the promised day to meet the guy, guess what? No answer to the page - all day. Since I had written down the info from his driver's license, I went to the address. Turned out to be an empty lot - no shit! Needless to say, never heard from him again. It also made me aware that the address info on a license really is not verified by DMV. So you can take down the info and still get screwed! Call the cops!
