The reason Japan invaded Manchuria first is because the Emperor of China is located in Manchuria. Look up the Forbidden City on a map to see where it is...yeah..you'll notice Tianenmen Square, and the old Capital of China which was peking...which is now called Beijing or better yet rent the movie "The Last Emperor"...Manchuria was quickly renamed "Manchukuo" by the japanese as soon as they captured the Emperior. The Japanese knew the rest of China would surrender once the Emperor was captured.
