Good luck w/ insurance, just settled mine. Original offer was ~$5K, appraisal came back at ~$10K, buyback was ~$2K. My insurance (state farm), chooses to go through a company called Copart for estimating buyback. I contacted a few salvage yards around my area and although salvage cost averaged $200-$1000, COPART is an AUCTION site which would get bids for the car. Anyone educated in cars could recover 2K in materials off the car. Believe me when I say that thanks to people on this forum, and including ~14K in performance/upgrade receipts, I fought with them to get more, but unless I got my own appraisal agent, or wanted to bid on my own car, I had to settle for my $8K. Good luck.
