Message I spent a bit of time this afternoon with Joe of ZSpeedPerformance installing one of his new shifter brackets in my Z. We had previously performed a test fitting with a prototype; today was an install of the finished product. To say that it surpassed my expectations would be an understatement.

This bracket installed in conjunction with my modified stock shifter and bronze shifter bushings results in a firm, crisp feel that I have never experienced in a Z32. Eliminating the stock support bracket and the stock fork that attaches to the top of the transmission gets rid of all of the deflection that is present in the stock assembly. With the new bracket, the shifter is affixed directly to the transmission.

The following items are obsolete once the new bracket and boot plate are installed (note: the components illustrated are parts from the shop, not what was actually removed from my car):

Everything is replaced with this kit from ZSpeedPerformance (Boot plate is optional)This is the version for the stock and modified stock shifters, as previously posted there will also be a version specifically for the Z1 Premium shifter:

The installation is pretty straight forward; the stock bracket that attaches to the transmission can be removed without dropping the exhaust. Based on my 3” test pipes, we had to remove the counter weight and bracket from the rear of the transmission to gain enough clearance to remove the shift bracket. Other than that, the installation is very similar to replacing the shifter bushings. The stock shifter installs to the new bracket just like it did to the OEM bracket, no modifications are required. Based on the thickness of the new bracket, there is a recess on the bottom side to accommodate the length of the stud on the stock shifter.

Here’s a visual of the how the bracket attaches to the top of the transmission to better illustrate how the new design of bracket works:

And with the optional boot plate in place:

The stock leather shift boot still fits just like it did with all of the OEM hardware in place. I didn’t think to get any pictures of the final look as it basically looks just like it did with the stock hardware. I did not take a specific measurement but there was ~3/8”+ of clearance to the drive shaft from the bottom of the shifter. For reference, I am still running an OEM 2-piece drive shaft and a Nismo trans mount.

Hopefully this doesn't kill the photobucket bandwidth........
