Message fixing white balance later involves finding some neutral tone in an image to sample from (not always available) or trusting your eyes to pick the right color (never reliable, see here for examples [ http://bit.ly/a9pKMT ])

I use and recommend both of these products.

They save time and they provide far better control over white balance than presets. Shoot once, set your camera white balance, then move on.

If you have a newer camera, you can shoot video. Video can't have white balance corrected later (you can color correct, but it's a destructive process). That's the main reason I bought these (you can't shoot RAW video unless you have $50,000 or so burning a hole in your pocket for a RED camera). If you have a desire to shoot HD with your dSLR, definitely look into these products.
