Message be the sole cause of outside edge tire wear. you can wear tires down to the cord in 100 miles if you toe is set wrong. toed in too far- outside edge, toed out- inside edge.

I have run a lot of cars with negative camber for maximum cornering benefits (granted -not alot of freeway miles) and the tires last longer because it keeps them off the outside edge. ( where the maximum load is during cornering). the tires were worn "evenly".

IMO, if your tires have edge wear after 20,000 of highway driving, you might have a camber issue. 2,000 miles? probably a toe issue. And, BTW, it's not rocket science to set toe in your garage if you have patience and a flat surface.
