:but I just took a razor blade and cut the rubber boot so it fit snugly around the base of the shifter. It isn't a perfect seal, but its good enough. I don't notice any extra noise or heat in the cabin area. All is well. I did something a little different to solve this. I flipped it boot upside down and used some RTV to seal it to the base. It seals well that way. If I take it off, I'll just clean it up and reseal.
