I've done it a number of times. Last time with a BMW dealer. Man, they hated it - tried all the tricks: checked with "manager" three or four times; "Is that the most you can pay?" line; manager came to introduce himself, etc. In the end, they came around rather than let me leave. But make no mistake, I WAS intent on leaving if necessary. Once they understood that - it was sold!
