Tracking the car's motion with a point of reference. I like to pick a point like the side mirror, or a light, sponsor logo, etc and follow it with an autofocus point. Anywhere at or slower than 1/125 will produce results that are increasingly dramatic as you slow your shutter speed down. Those were done at shutter speeds at around 1/80 with L glass and panning stabilizer mode, so the results are pretty dramatic and nice and sharp. Good results can be obtained with any glass though. For instance, I snapped this with my 18-55 kit lens as it was the only wider angle that i had a circular polarizer for. You can see the front is nice and sharp but the rear jumps as he went over the rumble strip. I like it.
