they are loaded with bunch of electronic crap that costs an arm and a leg to get it fixed (many more then Z's). The big thing with them is that the trannie and the drivelines (or something to do with the 4WD) tends to go out on them especially after 40k miles on the car. It is extremely expensive to fix. The seats are hardly practical. They are very small and you can't fit much there. As for the safety issue goes, I would strongly disagree with your Dad! Z's are one of the safest cars in the world. Just look at the record. The structural durability of a Z is outstanding! It doesn't matter how much the car weighs if it can't handle the impact and protect the people inside the vehicle. VR4's are better then many cars but in those areas you mentioned, they are NOT better then Z's! The only thing better about them is the fact that if you are planning on driving the car during hard winters, the 4WD comes in very handy whereas Z's do not handle in snow well....
