Message There is alot of good digital SLRs available used as well as glass.

Also I think good photography is more than just equipment
1. Subject
2. Background
3. Lighting
4. Photographer skill (can't tell you how many people Ihave seen and asked them what ISO and f-stop and etc they are using and they look at me with a blank look and say I just use auto).
5. Camera Body
6. Camera Lens

Also Megapixels are not all that needed. It depends on what size canvas you going to be printing in. If you are printing 4x6s it won't matter much over 4 megapixels.

I would buy a few key elements
1. Macro lens something 10-22 (great for interior shots) make sure it made for your camera body and there is no crop factor you want as wide as possible.
2. Canon makes a cheap 1.8 50m prime great for walk around lens where you can move yourself into position
3. 28-75 or is great all day lens just put it on and for most things you will be fine. A nice 2.8 would be ideal don't get hung up on having to have the best I like Tokina and Sigma lens and they are.
4. Get a light box aka a diffuser I always hate seeing pics with hot spots.
5. Ofcourse 3-4 memory cards 2 sets of rechargable batteries
6. I always like Camera Grips especially whey they allow for more battery for the body and flash.
7. I guess the most important thing is to learn how to use the damm thing. If you use any preset modes on an SLR camera you basically shouldn't have one :-)

Oh and yes you will spend more money on lens than a camera body so think about that when you deciding what to buy.
