to get a compression test back then, and it may not have shown up anyway. In both cases, the engine ran okay for a while. One was replaced by the seller, but my time was worth more than the engine, not to mention inconvenience. Plenty of people have done okay with jdm engines, but it is a crapshoot. I think it depends on money, and on how patient you are, and how willing you are to do a lot of wrenching. I figured it out, I was making less than $5/hour for my wrenching time, compared to buying a reputable engine. There are guys who don't mind taking engines out, gives them an excuse to upgrade some more, but this poster said he wanted to put it in and drive away.
