when the interal stresses of a part are coupled with the additional stresses from high power abuse, this can lead to a stress fracture and eventual failure. As far as I know, the Z32 transmissions do not suffer from stress induced gear failures.
The typical 5 speed issue is with the synchros getting narfed up from high-RPM shifting. Cryogenic treatment will do nothing to help with this. Learning to not expect a synchronized transmission to shift lightening fast is the best way to address this issue. If you absolutley have to shift it fast, look into the PPG gear sets with dog shift engagments - they were built specifically for this.
