You can calculate spring rate for a steel spring from the following formula:

R = (11500000 x d^4)/(8 x D^3 x Na)

Where:

R = rate
d = wire diameter (inches)
D = mean diameter of spring (OD - wire)
Na= number of active coils (count the total and subtract 2)

If you decide to get lighter rate springs, you will need to get longer springs with more travel. Ultimately you need to ensure that the total load capacity of the new spring (rate x travel) is higher than that of the stock springs (see my graph for that number front and rear).
