Message Got a kid that lives in my neighbor hood with an NA that I've worked on a few times before. He called late Monday night saying he was driving away and the car wouldn't go. Barely woudl idle and would eventually die. He limped it over to my house. I got no codes and everything looked good. But the car would not stay running. It was late so I parked it until last night.

I had done some injector work for him before so I though maybe he had a few go out. Checked those and it was fine. Next thought went to timing belt maybe skipped some teeth due to the issue I found a few months ago on another guys Z. Car seemed to run the same way. Did a compression test and everything was good there. Moved onto the fuel system next. He had a non-oem fuel filter so I removed all that and hooked up an inline gauge. Fuel pressure was fine when running but the car would die and pressing the gas wouldn't do anything. Shut off the car the fuel pressure dropped to zero. Hmm, might have found the issue. Changed the FPR with another used one I had and now the fuel pressue stays after shut down, but car still won't run right. Damn.

So my next thoughts were the fuel pump or fpc. Before I tore the back of the car apart I was to check some other stuff. I had glanced under his center panel before and it appears he had a stock air filter box/set up so I moved along from there.

Before digging into the car more I decided to pop the center panel and check the maf wiring. Maybe the connection was loose/bad, something had chewed on it, etc.

Took the panel off and saw this. Just knew I was on the right track for some reason.

No air filter at all? Then I looked at the end of the maf itself. No Screen !!! (not to mention the paint overspray)

Then I actually looked into the maf itself and see the problem. It had paper and other small things sucked in there. But the main issue stuck right out.

The cotton trees in the area have been going crazy lately. It actually looked like it was snowing the other day with the amount falling and the build up on the ground.

I put in a used maf I had and it ran just fine. So I pulled the cotton off the maf wire and it works fine as well. Wasted too much time to find something so simple. I hate it when it's the little things that you wouldn't think about being the problem :(.
