the worst is having to justify the expense to your wife after you have already justified it to yourself over and over again each time you go over a budget. the wife always wants to talk numbers, what's the total, for the whole project etc. etc. and no matter what you say there are two inevitabilities: 1) she's going to think it's a rediculous amount, and 2) it's not going to go as far as you think and you have to barter for more. I've probably got 8k into my resto currently, but basically none of it is in parts, but rather in tools which I see as giving a better return. I've picked up an AC/DC tig welder, a big compressor, full range of air tools, pro quality paint guns, about 450lb of steel tubing for my rotisserie, and the neccessary accessories to be able to actually use everything. torches, remote, stinger, gas, tungsten, stick electrode plumbing for the torch (water cooled), adapters etc. to get up and running with the welder alone cost over a grand after I bought the power supply... so yeah, it sucks, but it's not just the end result that makes it worth while. Your particular end result happens to be amazingly awesome, but it's the experience of it all as well.
