Message	From my understanding of the VTC system I would suggest your No.2 option is the correct one. When the ECU activates the solenoids, the advance is meant to be fully engaged (+10degs) BUT, the oil pressure controlled mechanism is not instantaneous (like a solenoid), so the advance could appear to be variable (i.e increasing slowly) "If you own a 300zx, you don't have time for a hobby" "If you own more than one 300zx, you don't have time for a life"
