| Had a local guy hit me up about looking over his Z. he said it started to run rough, loss of power, stall when stopped, etc. I figured it would be something simple, boost leak or sensor or something. Got the car and started looking it over checking stuff. It appeared to not be running on all cylinders. But it would die before I could use a program to check which ones. Ohmed the injectors, besided being heavily corroded they were all good. Checked fuel pressure, etc. Everything was coming up good. I was checking his plugs and for the heck of it decided to do a compression test. The whole drivers side was dead. Hmm. He was leaking a good amount of oil as well and he had mentioned he thought it might be a head gasket problem. Checked the coolant. While it was a different color than normal, it seemed fine. Oil checked out and plugs were dry. Talked it over with Bernie and decided to check his timing belt. Sure enough it was the issue. I don't know how hewas able to drive this thing to my house. Supposedly he had a "60k" done at a dealer about a 1k miles ago. He lived in a small town and from what I can see it couldn't have been a Nissan dealer, but still. Can you see the problem here?
 Oops, ziptie?
Even weirder that they did this because the clamp was right there!
I'm actually wondering what all he got charged for. Hoses were not new, thermostat was reused, tb was not new. None of the cam seals were new. They were actually pretty hard and brittle. Water pump was new, but not nissan. None of the vtc stuff was new either. Tb tensioner was replaced, but of course they broke it adjusting it the wrong way. Would explain why the gap was so large.

Took apart the front and saw the issue. Lined up the gear marks with the reference marks on the back plates. Both intake cam gears were off a few teeth so the belt had jumped at some point. With the slack it had I could believe it. he was pretty lucky.

Took it apart and put the cams at rest and hooked up my valve leak tester to check to see if the valves got fubared at all. Everything appeared to be good. So he got a 120k kit and I redid everything. Car runs like a champ again. Also fixed his shifter as it was backwards and very loose. Found his shifter bushings were totally missing. Someone thought it would work to just wrap the center collar with some tape :). I threw in a set of used-good shifter bushings I had. Much better.
