I lived in SC for 20+ yrs, grew up there. Myrtle Beach is a Daytona Beach/Panama City Beach "wannabe" I believe there is definitely some nice golf courses in the vicinity though, especially in N Myrtle Beach. If you go in June, you are going to find yourself in the middle of high school senior weeks or whatever it is called now. Bumper to bumper traffic anywhere near the coastline....lots of fun if you are a recent grad, not so much if you are a bit more grown up. Sometime after that is biker week, and black bike week, again not what you want to get caught in if just simple boozing, beach lounging, and golfball chasing is what you want to do. MY recommendation? Charleston. Maybe book someplace on Folly Island or Isle of Palms, and maybe drive down to Hilton Head for a couple of days for premium golf (watch out for the gators, bring extra balls). I'm not a golfer so I really couldnt make a recommendation on courses. I am sure there are top notch and good courses in the Charleston area, that will be easy to find once you are in town. There are great bars/restaraunts in downtown charleston, but you wont be on the beach (but you will be on the waterfront), the surrounding islands (Folly, IoP) have less night spots but you are on the beaches and there are a few local bars that island residents go to get away from the tourists downtown. Maybe you can crash a party at Madonna or Oprah's house downtown. South Carolinians leave Myrtle Beach to the kids, Canadians, and northerners. Another spot to consider is Savannah GA, or the Barrier Islands in NC. I dont have any specific recommendations for either because when I lived in Charleston I never had the desire to leave. Good luck with the trip.
