Message "Hi Matt

Yes the best luminance is the lower colour temp 4200K is the same as the one in all new Cars with factory fit Xenon/HID.

Wattage is one area that has been misinterpreted and miss informed on the internet by those who don't understand or know the technology so I hope this explanation will give you the information in a way that can be easily understood.

All Xenon HID D2 lamps are 35W there is no 55 W lamp manufactured so what is being quoted as 'brighter' because it is being claimed is 55 W is simply a Chinese manufacturer ( no quality or OE Ballast manufacturerer (Bosch/Valeo/Hella/Osram/Philips) makes a 55W ballast so if there is truly a ballast rated at 55W then all it is going to achieve is work the 35W lamp much harder and in turn kill the life of the lamp without gaining any advantage, in reality we have not experienced any system that claims to be 55W giving any better performance, in all tests we have run in our labs there is no comparison for the Philips kit with 35W HID giving 3 x the actual light output of the 55W halogen bulb that is being converted; added to this is the quality of the glass and with the OE manufacturers such as Philips/Osram/GE all their D2 burners use UV cut quartz glass.

A simple example of higher luminance from the same wattage with the same technology would be the comparison between a standard 9005 and a Philips 9005 X-treme Power both are the same wattage but the luminance is increased by higher pressure in the glass envelope and a different mix of gasses so that this enables the filament to burn hotter and whiter giving more light, yet with the halogen lamps this brightness comes at a cost and that is life, this is not the case with a 35W Xenon/HID lamp when run with the correct ballast.

I hope this explains clearly but please ask if you have any further questions.

Regards

Janet
