Sometime over the winter, my Z developed an obnoxious rotational grinding / whirring noise. The source of the noise was irritatingly difficult to pinpoint. Initially I suspected that the fan clutch was going bad, as the noise possibly seemed to be emanating from that general area. Then, after laying down next to the car, I suspected that it was coming from the clutch / transmission area. I did some research here and had the suspicion that it was possibly the throw out bearing going bad. In any case, today I finally got a chance to get the car on ramps and get under the car to isolate where the noise was originating from. With the help of my brother in law (thanks Brent!) and a handy automotive stethoscope, we were able to target the A/C tensioner pulley as the culprit of the noise. Made me feel MUCH better knowing that it was a non-critical pulley that was causing this annoyance. P.S. If anyone has an A/C Tensioner Pulley for sale shoot me an email.
