Message really compare to the Z at all, they are such totally different cars that it's kind of useless to compare the two directly. My last Z was pretty heavily modified - engine & suspension, it had a very race-car feel to it, so the Corvette actually feels kind of soft in comparison. The Z feels smaller, lighter & faster than it really is, the Corvette feels a little bigger, heavier & slower than it really is. At 417 rwhp my seat of the pants 0-60 is right at 4 seconds flat, in the Z it was always more like 4.5 - 5 seconds.

The HUD on the C5 is really cool for checking speeds at the apex of corners and I find myself able to go 10-15 mph faster on all my favorite onramps than I used to in the Z, even the the C5 is just lowered with swaybars. The stock brakes on the C5 are just ungodly - the last time I drove the Z before selling I actually thought I had dumped brake fluid or something, the difference is HUGE. Strange as it may sound, the *old tech* pushrod Corvette is a very refined, hi-tech feeling car with the HUD, active handling, drive by wire etc etc. By comparison the Z is a much more basic feeling, elemental sports car.

The C5 wins hands down on exhaust note, mine's relatively quiet but even so I scare the shit out of people at WOT. The Z cockpit is my all time favorite for ergonomics and the forward view, the C5 is more like being in a fighter cockpit, but the big hood and fenders out front spoil it compared to the Z's perfect clear forward view.

I have to say I absolutely love the Vette and don't regret the change a single bit, but I do wish I could have kept the Z too because it's just a different (and also awsome) driving experience. No matter how fast an n/a car is, NOTHING can touch big boost kicking in for ultimate grin factor. Oh yeah, even heavily modified with intake, exhaust, heads and cam my C5 still gets over 20mpg, which is pretty nice.
