Message it frequently involves replication with the goal to do it less expensively
or as well or better at the same cost. For example, anyone who bids
construction contracts, manufactures identical spec products
(hardware, petroleum products, chemicals, lumber...) or produces
food stuffs (flour, rice, beans, milk, eggs ...), tries to get hired for a
job and, yes, duplicate someone else's auto part, is engaged in
competition

Whenever someone strives to gain superiority or advantage they are,
by definition, competing. Innovation can be an element in competition
--another way of gaining advantage--but it is not required for
competition to exist.
