The airguide moves up and down with the tension rods, which are in turn connected to the upright and wheel. So it moves up and down with the wheel, maintaining a constant height from the ground. There is at least 5 1/2" clearance from the bottom of the airguide to the ground. If you go over a boulder sticking up 5 1/2", ripping off the airguide is the least of your worry, more than likely that will destroy your oil pan, etc.
