| I have been maintaining an informal list of loudness rankings of the various systems based on TT.Net member's posts wherein they compared one brand against another, e.g., I think Brand X is louder than Brand Y. This type of comparison is not scientific; however, it does begin to sort out the long list of available exhaust systems based on members actual observations. Here is what I have listed in terms mufflers w/ associated systems: B&B Greddy PE Specialty Z Labree OBX Greddy SP Brullen Apexi Stillen HKS Turbo Borla JWT Genie Thermal Stock Remember the turbos themselves chop up and quiet the exhaust pulses. Catalytic converters absorb sound waves. Consequently, split downpipes and/or testpipes also contribute to significant changes in the sound of an exhaust note. The selection of resonators is generally the most overlooked factor and many systems could be silenced [or made louder] by swapping out resonators. All things considered, wider pipes are louder pipers: and finally, many people believe X pipes are louder than H pipes. Use of an inline reducing venture can reduce the incidence of resonant drone in the 2500-3000 rpm highway cruising ranges without any noticeable loss of power. Wrapping pipes will quiet them, however, the ramifications of heat retention on thermal expansion of gases in a turbo system generates more controversy than consensus.
