Message "My dad said the insurance company didnt want to remove the car unless I canceled my registration and got a placed as a "non-operational vehicle" so i cant legally drive it on the streets. wtf? "

That's not 100% accurate. If it's non-opped, you CAN'T drive it on the street and CAN'T park it on the street.

"I got a letter in the mail from the CA DMV....I know my insurance company (AAAssholes) had something to do with it"

When one cancels insurance on a vehicle, the state yanks the registration.

"the insurance co gave him the same bs on the phone."

See above.

In Ca, you really don't want to drop insurance without dropping registration FIRST.

You can also insure it with just liability coverage, that should be less than $100/month. Then you can still drive it, and park it on street.
