Message professional paint shop. Don't piss around. They will dick you around forever and you will get screwed in the end. The friendship was over 6 months ago.

Remember that a real paint shop might spend more than the amount you paid them to get it to a proper starting place to do a proper paint job now. They might require a complete strip to metal or primer to get a smooth looking finish after these guys added so many layers of peeling and bubbling crap.

Take pictures, get estimates, and file a small claims if you can but $3k and up is the real court. But file quick - when a shop is poorly run and going out of business the money for lousy work goes to the quickest to file.

If they are a licensed and bonded business in your state then you should go after their bond first - you will get paid quick if you can prove incompetance through arbitration. Bond's are there to provide quick settlement up to a certain amount before the final amount is settled if it goes over the bond amount. In WA, bonded businesses are $6000 or $12000 bonded depending on what field they are in - not all businesses require a bond depending on state law and profession.

Take action it before Christmas or it might be next Christmas when you get to drive it.

Good Luck.
