The last time someone I knew had a car totaled, the insurance company had a printout from the DMV of the last 3 comparable cars sold. Yeah, you read that right. The insurance company had a printout from DMV of the last 3 comparable cars that were recently sold. One of my close acquaintances had a 1989 Supra totaled. The other party's insurance company had a printout of the most recent sales of same-model Supras. They averaged the prices and offered him that. To top it off, one of the Supras from the printout was in better condition, lower mileage, and sold for less than the average. How's that for a deal-breaker? So, just on the side note, people who falsely report the selling price to DMV so they get a tax break actually are ending up hurting others. Oh yeah, and I almost forgot ... you can kiss any aftermarket parts goodbye. They don't put value on anything that isn't OEM on the car. Just be glad they don't try to use the aftermarket part to de-value the car.
