A few days ago I did some calcs on volume change. My conclusion was that you could get about a 20% drop in cfm across the intercooler. This is with a pretty efficient (80%) intercooler and based on some info I got from Bell Intercooler's web site and temp data I found on tt.com. The 20% drop is down to the cfm that the engine will flow, thus the flow is about 240 cfm before the intercooler for each side of the engine. As you say, there is a lot of air mass in that, and that is what makes hp.
