Message to a 0-255 value for processing. This circuit is just an example and not my design BTW. As long as the input to the ECU is an average of the two analog signals, even a simple circuit such as this will work. Of course you could get more complicated and design a circuit which converts the analog signals to digital values, average those and then convert those back to an analog signal (which can be done in single IC packages BTW) for the ECU input but the results will basically be the same. The one drawback of this circuit as noted on the forum where I got it is that it would be good to have protection in that if a failure was to happen on one side the circuit would compensate by using the highest value input as the output. This is just a very simple circuit for averaging two like signals. The Selin design (if using ADC/DAC components which I'm sure it does) is definitely a better approach though.
