Message So I take the Z out this past Saturday for a little ride, dry roads, light traffic, 50 degree weather. I came to an exit to merge onto another 2 lane highway (RT1 to RT114). I wait for a couple of cars so I can merge, give it gas and it slightly fishtails on me (forgot how cold weather affects the S03's), all of a sudden I completely loose power and the engine barely runs, now I have an F250 pick-up almost on top of me, quickly put my hazard lights on and stay on the right, the road goes a bit uphill and Oh!! A Home Depot parking lot. As soon as I pull in the lot the engine completely dies and steam is coming out from under the hood. All I could think is the worst, turbos, timing belt, etc. I open the hood and all I could smell is raw gas.. WTF!!!
So I wait a couple of minutes and then turned the ignition on, gas just starts pouring out and hitting the windshield, I see where is coming from, the supply line out of the filter and into the hardline, there is plenty of slack but I suspect the strut tower brace I bought from Courtesy Parts back in 2000 (now available on EBay for practically pennies) it has never given me a problem and does not show any signs of wear on the hardline nor on the hose and I've grinded portion of the underside of the cross bar so it would give me more clearance, so I suspect a loose clamp.
OK what to do next, I call AAA and see what happens. The call me back to tell me that the tow company will be delayed, so I say F-it, cancel the call and walk over to Home Depot and buy some tools.
I get the tools and start taking the brace off, checked the hose and it just came off without the slightest force, tried to put it back in at tighten it and nothing, it gets to a certain point and it loosens back up, I got a couple of the same clamps and replaced it. Let the fuel dry out a little then I start it back up, VOILA!! all is good, shut the engine off and head back to Home Depot to return the tools.
Luckily enough there was no damage to the engine at all, just some fuel splashed all over the top and windshield. I think if I had run the car hard prior to it or if the weather was 80 + degree I would have lost it without a doubt, the engine wasn't hot enough to ignite the gas.
