Message I am begining to think my Z is jealous of this girl I am dating, lol. This is the second time it has acted up on me in two weeks, both times going on a date with this girl. It has *NEVER* left me stranded before, but it decided to do it last night heading from Denton to Dallas at about 9 pm with her in the car. ..sigh.. that is SO embarssing :( Her roomate had to come rescue us with some jumper cables and sit there for like 10 mins till the battery in the Z got charged enough to get us the 12 miles or so home in the dark, so lights had to be on.... So this morning I have to go buy a battery from WallyWorld and some jumpercables to drive it home today(60 miles!) So, of course Murpheys Law kicks in...when I get to 635 & 35 in Dallas traffic was at a standstill...while I'm running on just a battery sitting on the floorboard, NO alternator at all. It was 5mph crawl and stop for about 30+ mins at least. So, I decided to take an exit and try to use surface streets....I'm heading down the exit and the Z starts dying and coming back, then dying again. CRAP. I pull over, and hit my 4-ways. All of a sudden I smell and SEE SMOKE comming out from under the hood near the battery! Pop the hood really quick, and I had a towel on top of the battery using it as insulation btwn the POS jumper cable and the body of the car(just removed the negative batt. terminal and had the battery inside on the floorborad running the car.) and it is burning and so it the paint on the POS jumper cable! Grab the towel and disconnect the POS cable and put it out and put out the towel, LOL! Somehow the POS cable had worn thru the towel over the course of the drive and was shorting out the nice, heavy 4-ga cable to the ABS actuator. So, I thought situation was resolved...no damage. Get in to start car and it just goes "click"......DAMN. The short had drained the battery to the point it wouldn't turn the Z over. So, I put the old battery back in parallel with the one I had and cranked it. The old battery had recovered just enough to help turn over the engine, and then once it caught, no prob cause it's not that big a drain just the ignition system on the Z. Anyway, made it home FINALLY. Now I have to go change that freaking alternator AGAIN(just did it last summer). I am starting to get a little worried by the Z now...she has 173.5K on her now, and runs smooth as silk and looks great and all, but with all the miles things are really starting to pop up that are major inconviences.....
