Message	compared to known values. Without getting overly technical, as I have only a basic understanding of it myself, where a circuit is grounded can actually change the value of the voltage measured, not to mention induce noise into the measurement giving poor readings. The two wideband sensors I've dealt with have given detailed instructions on where to ground each wire and why. "Too dumb for opera, too smart for NASCAR."
