As for the premature water pump failures, it has been documented by other Japanese manufacturers (Nissan isn't one of them) that silicates can bond to your cooling system components and cause accelerated component wear. In your water pumps, this failure is in a premature bearing seal failure. Silicates can also solidify into a gel, settle down, and cause overheating problems. In all-aluminum engines, borates, another additive, were found to be the cause for regular head gasket problems. In cases like these, you should completely flush and replace your coolant with a Japanese-branded coolant, as they do not contain silicates, borates, and phosphates.
