you would want to put on the block. It basically draws heat from hotter to colder...not necessarily away from the object coated. You put it on radiators (in some cases), or ICs, other coolers, oil pans if they are vented, etc. If you put it on the engine block in a 300ZX, the turbos right on the outside along with the trapped in heat of the engine bay would go into the block. Which you do not want.
